Children’s entertainment by age

10th Aug 2012

It’s a busy week at Buttons HQ this week.

I have 7 parties this week and on busy weeks like this I love it when they are all different. So far we have had a Adventure party on Wednesday morning followed by an Olympic party in the afternoon. Yesterday I was in Richmond for a Tiny Tots party and this weekend I have 4 more. Saturday will see a Knight & Princess Adventure Story in the morning and then a Fun & Games party in the afternoon, and finally on Sunday it’s party games and face painting twice.

How do you pick the best style of entertainment for your child?

I always start with the age group but I do also ask the parents what the children love doing and how many children there will be. Sometimes the spit of boys to girls can also make a difference.

Below are some examples of my Buttons parties and who they are most suitable for.

Tiny Tots – This is perfect for children age 2 & 3. We have sing song time that the children will already be familiar with from play school and play groups. It also includes nice simple party games like pass the parcel & a bit of parachute fun. I ensure everyone is a winner and this party is great fun and but overwhelming.

Fun & Games – This has a mix of party games like musical statues and a funny magic show that the children are involved in. None of my games involve the children ‘being out’ and everyone wins a prize for something. This is great for 4-6 year olds and my most popular party type. I can also split this party up with face painting as lots of children love it and it’s also best to do something different after party food if the children are younger as they will find two hours of party games to be a bit to much. If your not sure about the mix of children and what they will like, this is the safest option.

Adventure Story Party – Perfect for children who love using there imaginations, enjoy stories and have quite good concentration, this is for 4-6 year olds and can be mixed with games or face painting.

Team Fun & Games – This is great for children aged 7-12. They are a bit to old for traditionally party games and but will really love team games. I have a mix of games and the cheering can be quite loud. I tend to change the teams after each game so that there is not an over all team that has won everything. Children who love having fun, being loud and playing games will really enjoy this, if your child is quite and shy this may not be the best option.

Craft parties – Great for girls & mixed parties but not the safest choice for an all boy party. There are great crafts for children ages 3 years to teenagers. Decorating crowns, swords and wings are perfect for the younger children, Decopatch & cupcake decorating are most suitable for children aged 6 and up and bath muffin making is ideal for children aged 7 and over.

I hope this helps you when thinking about what entertainment to book for your child’s birthday but do give me a call if you have any questions about booking party entertainment.

Have a great weekend everyone, I’m off to make some more knights shields 🙂
