Around the World Party

This is a party I just had to share with you.

The party parents booked me to entertain at their son’s Mikey’s 5th birthday party on Wednesday 23rd May.  I recived an email about a month prior to the party date with a very clear plan of what they wanted on the day and it was a lovely email to receive as I do love a party with a theme.

“Our little boy is turning 5 next month. We are having an “Around the World” theme party in our home after school. We have given each of the invited children a personalised air ticket as their invite and they will be presented with a personalised passport on arrival. Our little boy is the captain/pilot and he’ll be taking them on an around the world journey.

We have lots of thoughts/ideas and have been looking at various entertainers, but the available themes seem quite restrictive, which is why we love your philosophy and approach!”

I suggested an Around the World Adventure Story party as I thought this would fit in perfectly. They all loved this idea and away we went planning the finer details (they had big plans!).

After a few emails and looking at how long each element would take we had the final plan! I really wanted to share this party with you because Ana and her husband took a lot of time pulling it together and in the words of the party parents spent about 16 thousand hours making all the themed elements.

So this is what we did:

4pm – Children arrived at Mikey’s house and had some bubble popping fun with me in the kitchen while Mikey got changed into his Captain’s outfit and everyone settled in.

4.15 – Left the house and walked though the boarding area where each child checked in with me (told me their name) and had their photo taken with birthday dad before passing the Departure gate and boarding the plane (garden house).

4.15 – 4.45 – Children had party food served in plane style trays (love it) and I stood at the end of the aisle (not doing emergency exit signals, although I was very tempted) but doing a bit of magic with my magical assistance Captain Mikey.

4.45 – 5.20 – I took the children on an Around the World Adventure to find the stolen treasure. We rowed, rowed, rowed our boats across the Channel to France, and then with some magic powder we flew to Spain. We swam though the shark infested Atlantic Ocean to the Amazon rainforest where we scared away all sorts of animals with some great impressions. We then hopped on board a ship to take us over the Pacific Ocean to Australia where our stolen treasure was hidden in a cave.

5.20 – All the children received a bit of treasure (gold coin) for their bravery. It was then time to sing Happy Birthday and for Mikey to make a wish. I’m not sure what he wished for but if it was for something nice and refreshing on the hot 28 degree day it certainly came true. I got the children in a line and asked for quiet so Mikey could tell all his friends the exciting news: “There is an ice cream van in the drive!”

5.30 – 5.45 – After some excited squeals (and that was just the parents) everyone was treated to an ice cream by the very nice man who had arrived just in time to cool everyone down with a cone. While the children ate their treats in the shade I made everyone a balloon model.

5.45 – 6.00 – We finished with a couple of party games before all the lucky party guests were presented with a hand made suitcase as their party bag!

You can’t quite see some of the details in my hastily taken photos (before all the children arrived) and it would be criminal not to tell you a bit more about the level of detail that these parents went to.

The boxes used for the childrens’ tables on the plane had lights running down the side of each one next to two black strips to create a runway. It looked really cool when they turned all the lights on. And in the suitcases they had made passports for each child with an area for their photo, fake passport info and we even the flags from each country we went to on our adventure stamped in the passports.

I loved this party, there was a lot going on and I think party mum & dad may have wished they didn’t do quite so much at times, but it was well worth it. The children and parents were blown away by the attention to detail and I’m sure Mikey will never forget the day he and his friends had dinner in a plane in his garden, found stolen treasure in Australia or had an ice cream van in his drive.
